The Open qualifiers are over for the new Dota 2 Pro Circuit Major and Minor. With so many teams finding they have a spot to potentially earn a ticket for the Internation 2020, we’ll be having a look at all the teams that we will not be seeing in the upcoming minor and major.
In the SEA Region we saw some former regulars to the scene still have no success in qualifying with some new faces as well. Team Execration has still yet to perform to the same level that earned them a TI spot a few years ago, and with most top talent now moving to more major international brands, it is unlikely for this team to make it into the DPC this year due to all the higher tier stacks showing face. On that note, Forev was unable to bring legendary Starcraft II brand T1 into the DPC again for the second time, even with German and SEA frequenter Black^ carrying the team. We also saw Misery, a TI finalist, bringing together some house hold names in the world of Dota, like pieliedie, FLee, and vtFaded under the Cloud9 banner, but to no avail.
Misery/Dendi/RodjER all missed out this round of qualifiers
In the CIS region we had 2 teams that were in favor of coming through the qualifiers based on their players, recent results and more, but to our dismay, neither were able to pull through. Likely the most well-known would be Dendi’s new organization B8 were 3 games away from being able to qualify. On the other side of the bracket, Winstrike Team, with RodjER former member of the DPC top 3 roster VP. Winstrike Team ended up losing the final game to prevent them from seeing the closed qualifiers.
EU saw a rather straight forward qualifier. OG and OG Seed push through, with the only contention being the last game of OG Seed again Chicken Fighters. It came down to the last game and unfortunately chicken fighters were not able to secure it.
Both NA and SA tend to fail from having stacked regions, with in North America we saw no major upsets as all but TEAM TEAM, one of the teams to qualify, were just random stacks of 5 players. SA had a slightly different story, with the major upset of Infamous’ junior team losing to Thunder Predator.
Though we hope the changes in next year’s DPC will be more inviting and motivating to each region of brewing up more competition, but until then we will continue with the slaughter of 2 qualifiers spots.
